With the release of a Request for Proposals issued Nov. 29, 2022 by Infrastructure Ontario, The Ottawa Hospital is one step closer to opening a world-class new hospital that will transform patient experience for people across greater Ottawa and Eastern Ontario region, Western Quebec and Nunavut.

“This is a tremendously exciting next milestone as we work to bring the future of health care to Ottawa and the more than a million people we care for,” said Cameron Love, President and CEO of The Ottawa Hospital.  “We’re thrilled to have the continued support of Infrastructure Ontario and look forward to the selection process for a design and development team that aligns with the vision for the project which is grounded in compassion, with patients and families at the core.”

The Request for Proposals issued by Infrastructure Ontario seeks a design and development team to deliver one of Canada’s largest acute-care health centres.

The Ottawa Hospital’s new campus will be home to Eastern Ontario’s Regional Trauma Centre and designed to get patients looked after as quickly as possible with a rooftop helipad, dedicated access routes for ambulances, state of the art surgical suites and operating rooms housing the most advanced technology.

This new state-of-the-art hospital will be built on a 50-acre site bordered by Carling Avenue, Preston Street and Prince of Wales Drive in Ottawa. It will feature private rooms and bathrooms for every patient, enhancing privacy, infection control, and improving rest. The hospital and its surrounding site are being designed to promote healing and wellness among the diverse individuals, communities, and cultures served by The Ottawa Hospital.

Estimated to boost Ottawa’s GDP by nearly $2 billion during construction, the new facility will attract researchers and medical/clinical professionals from around the world, positioning The Ottawa Hospital as an international leader in health research, training and specialty care.
